Web Design for Grades 5-8

In 2002 & 2003 we taught Web Design as an elective for a small group of our 8th Graders.
This year we brought our 7th Graders into the web loop, and they did very well.

Then we dared to teach our 6th Graders to type HTML code, and they succeeded.
Now, the 5th Graders are typing a web page into existence! From scratch! In Notepad!

Our students have now become experts in moving graphics and songs in Windows Explorer and into their web sites, have mastered copying and pasting, formatting, editing and resizing graphics, and their "attention to detail and perfection" has rewarded them into launching their sites into "Internet Land"!

Every symbol like "/", ".", > & < must be precise--or the page doesn't work.

Whether they eventually become webmasters someday, or even do web sites on the side, they've come to understand that everyday 300,000 web sites are launched on the Internet. Someone's got to create them. Someone's got to maintain & update them. Several of the students have caught the "web developer's fever", and by the time they're in high school, they may be earning a nice amount college money on the side.

Students are referring to Mr. Rotondo's Online HTML Manual on "How to Build Web Sites".
