St. James Church was dedicated on Thanksgiving Day in 1901 to serve Penns Grove and the surrounding communities. It became a parish in March 1919 under the spiritual guidance of the first pastor, Fr. Hugh L. Massey. Our Parish community is a rich blend of Italian, Hispanic and African-American cultures with a friendly family atmosphere.
