The Collings Lake Community began as a summer residence for the middle class Philadelphians. Gradually some of the families decided on staying permanently. In time, the community grew in numbers, so in 1973 Bishop George H. Guilfoyle appointed a Coordinator of Pastoral ministries for the spiritual needs of the people.
On April 4, 1976, Our Lady of the Lakes officially became a parish with Fr. John Cooke as its founding pastor. The church, with a 250 seating capacity, was dedicated on May 21, 1978. The Religious Education Center-Parish Hall was constructed during the pastorate of Fr. Thomas Fitzsimmons.
